World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) Thessaloniki Greece

May 4, 2011 in Events in Greece, Thessaloniki by Maria Philippeu

World Naked Bike riders in Salonica

The fourth World Naked Cycling (World Naked Bike Ride) will be held on Friday 3 June 2011 in the afternoon in Thessaloniki.

It’s time to put a STOP to the “indecent” exposure of humans in this planet with cars and the pollution they create.

We drive the car with our naked bodies as the best way to defend our dignity, exposing the vulnerability faced by cyclists and pedestrians on our roads, and the negative consequences we all face due to dependence on oil and other forms of non-renewable energy.

The annual contribution of pollution in Thessaloniki has the most polluted particles in small-town in Europe, and all of this is due to the lack of environmental policy . The traffic, according to residents, is the main problem of the city. The value of green space per inhabitant is only 2 sqm while Bonn is 35sqm and the European threshold for a sustainable city is 9 sqm. The sidewalks are blocked by parked cars, bikes, tables and chairs, advertising signs. The free public space has shrunk. Metropolitan parks and green spaces are being reduced constantly. Unnecessary use of the car is 9 times higher in Greece for a distance of less than one kilometer, while cycling is less than 1%.

The bicycle ride is peaceful and artistic, it has flairir. Painted and trimmed bodies and bikes, natural decorations, accessories, colors and music will be our weapons to fight for ever-friendly people and cycling cities. Also with us participating teams Skateboards, Rollers Skates and showing another side of alternative transportation in the city.

Costas Molvalis and his Fanulone Project: New Greek artist with a great future

April 30, 2011 in EDITORIALS, Editorials by Bianca, Greeks with a View by Maria Philippeu

Costas Molvalis

The creator of Fanulone project is quite a talented, assertive and interesting character.
I met Costas in the internet, he was trying to build audience for his music, I liked his aggressiveness, not a common trait for many people. I decided right then and there to meet this person; he looked extremely young and yet sounded so mature. Additionally, I heard his music it is combination of classical, new age and modern ummmmmm… I said, I like it!! Next thing you know I added him on facebook and played his music on my radio show.
I just love people that have the talent to create something original!!

Mihalis Hionas a colourful personality and the owner of “Santorini Mou”

April 26, 2011 in EDITORIALS, Editorials by Bianca, Gastronomy, Interviews by Maria Philippeu

Mihalis Hionas and Jennifer Aniston

Ever since I moved to Oia I have noticed the restaurant “Santorini Mou” is located right at the corner where I have to turn to enter the parking near my home, what caught my eye was their sign, it reads “Thank you for your smile”, I thought that was different!  I noticed that they have live music as well…ummm I thought…I have to meet these people.

I waited patiently for spring to come and finally just before Easter I saw activities, thereby I decided to visit them.

I had been under the wrongful impression that Mihalis was American-Greek and that he arrived in the spring just to operate his restaurant, thereby I was curious to hear the views and opinions of a Greek emigrant. To my surprise this musical world road traveller was born and raised in Greece.
